The Andernach Christmas Village with Living Nativity scene
Every year before Christmas, the historic market square in Andernach on the Middle Rhine is being built around a special building, the life-size nursery, which has been being built in painstaking work for more than 25 years from late autumn onwards. All around the crib are the romantic wooden houses of the Christmas village, in which gifts and decorative items as well as Christmas treats are offered for sale. A hearty, heated hut invites you to stop and linger.
The Christmas Village always opens its doors on the Monday before the first Sunday of Advent, this year on the 25th of November, and is open daily from 11am to 8pm until the 23rd of December.
On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, the games of the "Living Nativity" will take place on the four Advent weekends at 3 pm and 6 pm respectively. Volunteer amateur actors present the presentation of the Christmas story. Sheep, donkeys and goats are also involved. The "Living Nativity Scene" is year after year eagerly awaited by numerous visitors. Around the presentations, further program items in the nativity set will be the starting point for the upcoming Christmas. The visit to the Andernach Christmas Village can be combined with a stroll through the more than 2,000-year-old city, a culinary finale in the diverse Andernach gastronomy and of course with one of the exciting city tours. Especially recommended in winter are the "torch city tour" or the guided tour "with the night watchman on the way".
